Rules of Product Testing

What to Bring With You

Personal Behavior

  1. Do not participate in evaluations if you are sick (ex. cold, flue, sinus problems, etc.)
    • We want to keep germs from spreading to our other panelists and staff.
    • Your ability to taste products is negatively affected when you're sick.
  2. Avoid consumption of strong food or drink 1 hour before evaluation
    • Items such as coffee and garlic can linger and affect your ability to taste products.
  3. Avoid smoking 1 hour before your scheduled time.
    • Smoking decreases your ability to taste and a hour is recommended as the amount of time it takes for you to recover.
  4. Avoid using strong perfumes or fragrances.
    • You may not be able to smell your perfume or fragrance since you adapt to it after a certain amount of time, but others can. It can negatively affect other participant's ability to smell & taste.
  5. Avoid talking during evaluation.
    • The booth area is a controlled area, where there should be no distractions. Talking is a distraction and we want you to focus on evaluating products.
  6. When you leave the booth area, DO NOT talk about the products you evaluated.
    • We need each panelist to test the products without hearing other people's opinions about them. You might think you're only talking to your friend but a tester who hasn't yet participated might overhear.
  7. Please turn off cell phone or put on vibrate mode.
    • The booth area is a controlled area, where there should be no distractions. The ringing of your phone is a distraction and talking is strongly discouraged; we want you to focus on evaluating products.
